Minister Burney to open WIPCE 2022
Australian WIPCE hosts of the World Indigenous Peoples’ Conference on Education are honoured to announce that Hon Linda Burney MP will open the WIPCE 2022 conference at the opening ceremony at Tarndanya (Adelaide) on the lands of the Kaurna Nation on 26 September.
Over more than 35 years, WIPCE has grown to become a major international event in the Indigenous education movement.
Minister Burney, ‘educator and legislator’ is the first Aboriginal woman to serve as Minister for Indigenous Australians, appointed to the Australian parliament as Member for Barton and Cabinet Minister in May 2022.
Amongst numerous positions and achievements, Linda Burney was awarded the Meritorious Service to ‘Public Education and Training’ Award, 2010 and NAIDOC Lifetime Achievement Award, 2014 with a lifetime commitment to improving Indigenous education and training.
